To study lifetimes in 142Gd we have carried out a DSAM experiment with EUROBALL IV at IReS Strasbourg using the 114Sn(32S,2p2n) reaction at a beam energy of 160 MeV. The initial recoil velocity is v/c = 2.2% for the used reaction. EUROBALL IV was equipped with an inner BGO ball and the particle detector array EUCLIDES to increase the selectivity for the reaction channel of interest. The DSAM line shape analysis was carried out in doubly-gated coincidence spectra. The longest E2 band in 142Gd based on a 10+ isomer of (π h11/2)2 configuration is known up to I=34. TRS calculations suggest that for this band the nuclear shape will move at high spins into a well-deformed, triaxial minimum (β2 = 0.25, γ = 26.5∘). For the stretched E2 transitions of this band in the spin 14 - 26 region B(E2) values of ≈ 60 W.u. have been found. This result indicates a considerable enhancement of the stretched E2 transitions for the quadrupole band in 142Gd.
