One of the components of the proposed expansion of the accelerator facilities at GSI/Darmstadt is the storage ring for a phase space cooled antiprotons with momenta between 1.5 and 15 GeV/c. An internal detector, called PANDA, for pp and pA reactions is being designed. Simulation based on the GEANT4 and ROOT packages have been developed for a detailed investigation of the detector performance. The spatial resolution, the photon conversion probability and the influence of the material budget on the momentum resolution have been studied. An argon based gas mixture for the straw tubes fulfill the requirements for the spatial resolution and charge collection. The Micro Vertex Detector geometry was optimized to improve the position resolution and decrease multiple scattering.
