IH-7-Gap/IH-9-Gap Structures for MAFF and REX-ISOLDE — •O. Kester, H. Bongers, D. Habs, and T. Sieber — Sektion Physik der LMU München, Am Coulombwall 1, D-85748 Garching
For the LINAC of the Munich accelerator for fission fragments (MAFF) an energy variable section, consisting of two identical IH-7-gap resonators, is under construction. The proposed injection energies into these resonators are 4.15 MeV/u and 5.40 MeV/u respectively. One prototype of the resonators is already manufactured and currently under investigation in a test beam line at Maier-Leibnitz-Labor (Munich). The resonators were designed in a modular setup, so that modifications of the drift tube structure could simply be done by exchanging a few, easily accessible parts. A proposal was made to use the prototype resonator tank as post accelerator upgrade for REX-ISOLDE (CERN). To match the new injection energy of 2.2 MeV/u, the structure has to be changed to a 9-gap resonator. All parts necessary for this modification have been built and first tests have been performed. Resonance frequency and gap voltage distribution turned out to be in good agreement with the requirements. The design of the resonators and the different drift tube structures, the results of the beam line tests and the proposed upgrade of REX-ISOLDE will be presented.
