Renormalization of Relativistic Baryon Chiral Perturbation Theory and Power Counting — •Jambul Gegelia, Thomas Fuchs, and Stefan Scherer — Institut für Kernphysik, Johannes Gutenberg-Universität, Mainz
We discuss a renormalization scheme for relativistic baryon chiral perturbation theory which allows for a consistent power counting of renormalized diagrams. The method relies on additional subtractions beyond the standard MS scheme of ChPT to remove contributions violating power counting and to absorb them into appropriately chosen counter terms of the most general effective Lagrangian. The advantage of our method is that it can also be generalized to multi-loop diagrams. As an application we discuss the mass and the scalar form factor of the nucleon and compare the results with the expressions of the infrared regularization of Becher and Leutwyler.
