The two forward TPCs (FTPCs) in the STAR - Detector at RHIC track charged particles in the forward and backward rapidity region, covering 2.5 < |η| < 4.0. Charged hadron spectra from 50k minimum bias events taken with the STAR FTPCs in the 2001/2002 Gold-Gold run at √sNN = 200 GeV will be discussed. Recent calibration work and simulations permit to estimate the efficiency and the momentum resolution of the detectors for these events, which have a track multiplicity of up to 500 in each FTPC.
Expected results from the 2003 run of RHIC starting in January, using the asymmetric collision system Deuterium-Gold at 200 GeV, will be presented and compared with the Gold-Gold data.
In addition, the possibility of identifying Λs and K0s via secondary vertices will be explored. Here, the FTPCs permit the extension of existing STAR TPC measurements to larger rapidity.
