A measurement of the reaction pd → (pp)n with forward emission of a fast proton pair with excitation energy Epp< 3 MeV was carried out at six proton-beam energies Tp=0.6 − 1.9 GeV at ANKE (COSY–Jülich). The differential cross section of the reaction, averaged up to 8∘ over the cm polar angle of the total momentum of the pp pairs, was obtained. The results are compared to calculations based on a theoretical model, previously applied to the pd → dp process. A first preliminary value of the vector analyzing power Ayp was also obtained with polarized beam.
For future few–nucleon interaction studies with polarized beams and targets at COSY–Jülich, a polarized internal storage cell gas target is currently being developed and will be implemented at ANKE. The polarized atomic beam source is already performing well. In addition, a Lamb-Shift target polarimeter is currently set up.
