Layout of the Super-FRS — •M. Winkler — GSI Darmstadt, Germany
Since more than a decade the GSI projectile fragment separator FRS has successfully demonstrated the research potential of in–flight separators at relativistic energies. Many pioneering experiments have performed specially also in combination with the storage–cooler ring ESR.
The next generation of a large–scale European in-flight facility is presently planned at GSI. It will provide up to a factor of 104 higher intensities for the most exotic neutron-rich nuclei. The new fragment separator, the Super–FRS, is a superconducting large acceptance device with multiple degrader stages. The Super-FRS is specially well suited for the separation of projectile fission fragments with large phase space. The layout and the characteristics of the facility will be presented.
