We propose to study the spin structure of the amplitude of the elementary np → pn charge–exchange process (CE) by means of the peripheral deuteron CE reaction dp → (pp)n at small four–momentum transfer. The experiment will be carried out at the ANKE spectrometer using the internal beam of the COoler SYnchrotron COSY–Jülich. In the first stage, the investigation with unpolarized beam and target allows one to determine the spin–dependent part of the elementary CE process. In the second stage, using tensor polarized deuteron beam enables us to determine the absolute values of the two spin–dependent amplitudes. Using transversely polarized deuterons and protons opens the possibility to obtain additional information, namely the relative phase between them.
