Development of a High Precision Voltage to Frequency Converter System for the TRIC experiment * — •Mark Blumenthal1, Dieter Eversheim1, Ralf Gebel2, and Olaf Felden21Helmholtz Institut für Strahlen- und Kernphysik, Universität Bonn — 2Institut für Kernphysik, Forschungszentrum Jülich

For the Time Reversal Invariance Experiment at COSY (TRIC) in Jülich the polarization correlation Ay,xz is to be measured to an accuracy of 10−7 . In a novel measuring technique this is rendered to a current measurement of the circulating proton beam in COSY to a short term accuracy of 10−6 . For a convenient data acquisition system this current has to be converted to a frequency by means of a voltage to frequency converter (VFC).

The initial setup of the VFC gave readings of the order of 10−4 . Further investigation attributed the poor performance of the VFC to its sensitivity to temperature variations. To overcome this problem a temperature controller system was developed which stabilized the VFC temperature to 10−3 C. The temperature controller system improved the performance of the VFC to the desired accuracy. Details of the design as well as performance measurements will be discussed.
