Δ Et particle identifaction with thick Si/Li detectors — •A. Mussgiller1, G. Fiori1, T. Krings1, S. Merzliakov2, D. Protic1, and R. Schleichert11Institut für Kernphysik, Forschungszentrum Jülich — 2Laboratory of Nuclear Problems, JINR, Dubna, Russia

To study the meson production on the neutron, deuterium is used as an effective neutron target by tagging the spectator proton to fix the input channel. For this purpose double-sided silicon strip detectors have been arranged in a telescope like structure with the last layer of silicon being 5500 µ m thick. The detector with its 2 x 50 strips is read out by VA32TA2 front end chips which allow energy and timing measurements. By measuring the energy loss of a particle and the time difference of the signal from both sides, the detector can be used as a stand alone device for particle identification. First results of the measurements with this newly developed thick detector will be presented.
