The light scalar-isoscalar resonance σ has attracted a lot of theoretical and experimental interest for many years [1]. We study the weak decays of B and D mesons to σ and π using a QCD motivated relativistic quark model [2,3]. Our model can be viewed as a quantum field approach based on an effective Lagrangian describing the transition of light and heavy hadrons to their constituent quarks. We present the results for the coupling constants gσππ, gDσπ and gBσπ and two-body decay widths Γ(D → σπ) and Γ(B → σπ). Our results are in good agreement with experimental data.
