New masses of neutron–rich fission fragments, produced with relativistic uranium projectiles, have been measured with Isochronous Mass Spectrometry at FRS–ESR. This method is based on the condition that the revolution time is independent of the velocity of the stored fragments and has the advantage that very short-lived nuclei (T1/2∼ ms) can be investigated. The mass resolving power is approximately 1*105 and a typical mass accuracy of 100 keV is reached. First results will be compared with current nuclear model predictions and tables. Furthermore the evolution of shell closures and the astrophysical path of nucleosynthesis (r–process) will be discussed.
