A first series of measurements was finished by the pionic hydrogen collaboration at PSI. Goal was 1) to identify a possible change of the energy of ground-state X-ray transitions due to molecular formation and 2) to establish the dependence on the initial state of the Doppler broadening originating from Coulomb deexcitation. To investigate the energy dependence, the πH3p−1s transitions was measured in the density range equivalent to pressures from 3 bar to liquid. Furthermore, the three transitions πH2p−1s, πH3p−1s and πH4p−1s were measured at a density equivalent to 10 bar. Preliminary results for the strong-interaction shift and the dependence of the line width on the inital state will be presented.
