Omega photoproduktion off the proton and off nuclei — •David Trnka — II. Physikalisches Institut, Heinrich-Buff-Ring 16, 35392 Giessen
Omega photoproduction can be used to investigate possible in-medium modifications of hadron properties. A variety of theoretical models predict a shift of the mass of the omega meson in the order of −140 MeV <m*−mV < −15MeV and a broadening of the width within a range of 20 to 50 MeV at nuclear densities. The data is obtained at the ELSA accelerator in Bonn using the the combined detector system of Crystal Barrel and TAPS, providing an almost 4π coverage for photon detection. The Reaction γ + A → ω + X is identified via the decay mode ω → π0+γ → γγγ by detecting the three photons. ELSA provides a tagged photon beam within a range of 780 MeV up to 2.9 GeV. Until now data off the proton has been taken. The measurement off solid targets is ongoing and will be finished in May 2003. Prelimary results of ω production off the proton, which is used as reference channel, will be presented and compared to data taken at SAPHIR and JLab. Furthermore the feasibility to study this reaction channel with nuclear targets will be discussed based on simulation results [1].
