Renormalization group approach to nuclear matter — •Achim Schwenk1, Bengt Friman2, and G.E. Brown31Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio — 2GSI, Darmstadt — 3SUNY, Stony Brook, New York

The renormalization group (RG) methods pioneered by Shankar are applied to the nuclear many-body problem. As input we use the unique low momentum nucleon-nucleon interaction Vlow k, obtained by integrating out the high momentum components of realistic nucleon-nucleon potentials. Starting from Vlow k, polarization effects due to the many-body medium are included to all orders in the vacuum interaction by solving the RG equation in the particle-hole channels. The role of tensor and spin-orbit interactions in the RG flow is explored in detail. The resulting quasiparticle interaction includes the induced interaction of Babu and Brown. The in-medium scattering amplitude for quasiparticles near the Fermi surface is obtained also for non-forward scattering, which is of interest for many applications. Here we study pairing of nucleons in homogeneous matter and present results for pairing in neutron matter. Other possible applications are briefly discussed.
