A kinetic control on the heliospheric interface dynamics — •Hans Joerg Fahr 1 and Maciej Bzowski 21Inst.f.Astrophysik und Extraterrestrik, Universitaet Bonn, Auf dem Huegel 71, 53121 Bonn — 2Space Research Centre, Barticka 18 A, 000-716 Warsaw/Poland

The solar system moves relative to the ambient interstellar medium thus giving rise to the counterflow of solar and inter stellar plasmas. The resulting interface-flows are usually modelled using hydrodynamic simulation codes consistently describing the hydrodynamic and thermodynamic coupling of different interacting fluids e.g. like protons, H-atoms and pick-up ions. The fluids are expected to be correctly described by shifted Maxwellians, i.e. to be only defined by the lowest 3 velocity moments. Here we show that this assumption is insuffi ciently fulfilled for protons and H-atoms interacting by charge exchange. Using a Boltzmann-kinetic description for the distri bution functions of protons and H-atoms coupled by charge exchange we can show that non-negligible deviations from shifted Max wellians are developing in the heliospheric interface region both for protons and H-atoms. For the interpretation of innerheliospheric measurements this has to be taken into account.
