The low corona of the Sun — •Hardi Peter — Kiepenheuer-Institut für Sonnenphysik, Schöneckstr. 6, 79104 Freiburg
The low corona of the Sun and especially the thin transition region from the chromosphere to the corona are highly structured and very dynamic. Transient phenomena like explosive events or blinkers are prominent, and different spatial structures like coronal loops or funnels contribute to the emission we observe in the extreme ultraviolet.
This contribution will review some of the recent observational findings and compare them to numerical models, including 1D models for loops, 2D models for funnels and 3D models for small parts of active regions. With all these models spectra are synthesized to better relate them to observations.
As the low corona can be considered as the lower boundary of the solar wind or the heliosphere, emphasis will be put on the relation of the low corona to the solar wind mass loss.
