Astroanalog polymerized in low pressure RF plasma — •Eva Kovacevic, Ilija Stefanovic, Johannes Berndt, and Jörg Winter — Institut f*r Experimentalphysik II, Ruhr Universit*t Bochum 44801 Bochum
We present the properties of diffuse interstellar media dust analog obtained by a plasma polymerization process in reactive low pressure RF discharges with acetylene as precursor gas. The in-situ infrared spectra of the spheroid particles reveal a strong aliphatic presence, weak presence of OH and carbonyl groups, and traces of aromatic compounds. We demonstrate close similarities between these laboratory spectra and the astronomically obtained data. The plasma polymerization process allows controlled and simple variations of the characteristics of the discharge and, correspondingly, of the nano-particles and their spectra. Presented are also measurements on the carbonaceous analog grown in nitrogen containing gas mixtures which reveal the presence of nitrile bands, a strong presence of NH and N-sp2 bands and drastically weakened aliphatic feature.
