Chemical reaction studies of CH4/N2 gas mixture in a dielectric barrier discharge — •Abhijit Majumdar, J.F. Behnke, and Rainer Hippler — Institut für Physik, Universität Greifswald
Chemical reactions in a CH4/N2 gas mixture inside a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma have been studied by means of mass spectrometry. The DBD plasma has been created at medium pressure of 250-300 mbar in a rectangular reactor employing 5.7 kV pulses at 5 kHz. Most notable is the comsumption of CH4 and the production of H2 molecules. In addition, formation of heavier hydrocarbons like CnH2n + 2 with n up to 8 is observed in the mass spectrum.
