The emission of unbound 8Be and 12C clusters has been studied in 1) the 18O+13C→ 23Ne+ (8Be or 2α) reaction, at an energy of EL(18O) = 100 MeV, meant for the study of Ne isotopes and 2) the 28Si+24Mg → 40Ca +(12C or 3α) reaction, at an incident energy of 130 MeV, an experiment designed to observe the emission of 8Be and the 3α channel as the main compound decay channels. The results obtained from comparing the γ-ray spectra in the case of fusion-fission and fusion-evaporation leading to the same residual nuclei are discussed. We observed that in the fusion-fission process the residual nucleus has more excitation energy and the subsequent emission of another light particle (n, p or α) is enhanced. A quantitative analysis of the energy spectra of 2 or 3 subsequently emitted α-particles and 8Be or 12C clusters has been carried out. The angular-momentum-to-energy-balance of the cluster emission is compared with that of the multiple α-emission and an interpretation of the results is given.
