According to recent theoretical work [Shi et al.], the response of the spectators to the participants blast can result in a gain of the residue longitudinal momenta such that the mean spectator-like residue velocities can exceed the velocity of the original projectile. Such re-acceleration effect is predicted to exhibit sensitivity to the momentum-dependent properties of the nuclear mean field and at the same time stay almost unaffected by the stiffness of the nuclear matter. In this contribution, the influence of the projectile energy and the mass of the colliding nuclei on the strength of the re-acceleration of the final residues is discussed. We present the momentum distributions of the projectile fragments formed in the reactions 208Pb+Ti at 0.5 and 1.0 A GeV, and 238U+Pb,Ti at 1 A GeV measured with the high-resolution magnetic spectrometer FRS at GSI-Darmstadt.
