In several Lu and Hf isotopes rotational bands with large deformation have been observed in recent years for which theory predicts a pronounced stable triaxiality (γ≈±20). The triaxial shape has been confirmed by the observation of the ’Wobbling Mode’ [1] which is a unique fingerprint. High-spin states in 161Lu have been populated in the reaction 139La(28Si,6n) at the Vivitron tandem accelerator at IReS, Strasbourg. Gamma-ray coincidences were measured with the EUROBALL spectrometer array. The analysis revealed two bands with very similar properties which are linked by enhanced E2 transitions. This pattern is characteristic for wobbling excitations.
