The η N channel in the Jülich π N model — •Johann Haidenbauer1, Achot M. Gasparyan2, Christoph Hanhart1, and Josef Speth11FZ Jülich, IKP, 52425 Jülich — 2ITEP, 117258, B.Cheremushkinskaya 25, Moscow, Russia

The reaction π N→ η N at the η N threshold is closely related to the properties of the S11(1535) resonance. In the previous version of the Jülich π N model [1] the near-threshold πp → η n cross section was overestimated by about 20-30% at the position of the peak. The reason for this deficiency is that only the π N and η N channels were allowed to couple to the N*(1535) resonance.

Recently we presented an improved model of the π N interaction [2]. Specifically, we introduced now a coupling of the π Δ channel to the N*(1535) resonance. This allowed a simultanous description of the total πp → η n cross section and the inelasticity in the S11 partial wave in the resonance region. We also achieved a much better description of the reaction π N→ η N at higher energies. We will report corresponding results at this meeting.
