For track reconstruction of scattered muons in the central beam region of the COMPASS Experiment, detectors with excellent time resolution as well as high efficiency and rate capability are needed. Therefore, scintillating fibre hodoscopes have been developed and implemented in the COMPASS spectrometer. All requirements, e.g. time resolution σ ∼ 400ps, space resolution σ ≤ 300 µ m and efficiency > 99% could be fullfilled at the nominal beam rate of 106 µ/s·mm2. The usage of a double threshold discriminator system allows the observation and controlling of signal height stability and improves the time resolution of the system. Performance studies of these scintillating fibre detectors based on COMPASS data, taken in the years 2002 and 2003, are presented. The status of an upgrade of the COMPASS Beam Momentum Station with scintillating fibre hodoscopes is discussed.
