Upgrade of the High-Resolution Energy-Loss Electron Scattering Spectrometer at the S-DALINAC∗ — •O. Burda, J. Enders, A. Lenhardt, P. von Neumann-Cosel, M. Platz, A. Richter, and S. Watzlawik — Institut für Kernphysik, Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany
The 169∘ Energy-Loss Spectrometer at
the S-DALINAC is used for high resolution electron scattering
experiments. The spectrometer and its detector system in
particular has undergone a complete redesign. The new detector
system is now based on semiconductor microstrip detectors which
deliver a high resolution defined only by the geometric
configuration of the strip size. A new data acquisition system was
developed which using highly sophisticated technologies like
FPGAs, CPLDs and Embedded Systems. Here, the sequencer is
synthesized in the CPLD while the memory management, discriminator
and counting units make use of the FPGA. A RISK based Controller
provides the interface between the FPGA, the CPLD and the data
transmission path. The data transmission path itself is realized
with well-known ethernet technologies and therefore allows to use
standard user frontends for data processing. Browsers, for
example, gives the possibility to observe the spectra online. With
this setup, it is possible to carry out scattering experiments
with a momentum resolution of Δ p/p=3×10−4
and event rates up to 160 kHz at a detection efficiency close to
100%.
