The Munich Accelerator for Fission Fragments, currently being developed at the new research reactor FRM-II, is using neutron induced fission to produce neutron rich exotic nuclides.
The Poster will give a very brief overview of MAFF and focus on the beam extraction and transport. The electrostatic beam guidance system extracts the fission products from the ion source and transports the beam to a Mattauch-Herzog type mass separator. Two masses m1 and m2 (m1/m2≈3/2) are selected by the separator and injected to separate coolers, for emittance improvement.
In the first stage of MAFF one of the beams will be used for low energy experiments, with MAFFTRAP or MINIBALL.
