Progress report on the A4 Compton backscattering polarimeter — •Yoshio Imai — Institut für Kernphysik, Universität Mainz, D-55128 Mainz, Germany
The A4-collaboration of the Dept. of Nuclear Physics, University of Mainz, is conducting experiments on parity violation in the elastic electron-nucleon-scattering which require the use of polarized electron beams. For the measurement of the absolute beam polarization, a Compton backscattering polarimeter using the new intra-cavity-technique has been installed into the beamline. In August 2003, first backscattered photons have been detected.
This talk will present the current status of operation and the challenges encountered, and give an outlook at the expected performance of the system.
