The HADES Run Control∗ — •B. Sailer1, B. Kolb2, M. Münch1, and M. Traxler2 — 1Technische Universität München, James-Franck-Strasse 1, D-85748 Garching — 2Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforsching mbH Darmstadt, Planckstrasse 1, D-64291 Darmstadt
The High Acceptance DiElectron Spectrometer HADES at GSI Darmstadt has started data taking. The data aquisition combined with a multilevel trigger system is capable to read out 80 000 channels at a first level trigger rate of 3 × 104 Hz with zero supression and to transport 6 × 103 events to mass storage every second. The complex system consists of more than 1 000 frontend and over 100 VME boards with a large number of different tasks and layouts, mainly custom built hardware. A run control system utilizing the EPICS package has been developed making use of its network communication layer, monitoring and sequencing capabilities. Interfaces have been introduced to allow distributed and modular development of hardware drivers and easy exchange of parameter sources. This includes read and write access to the HADES database and allows complete bookkeeping of the experimental settings for analysis purposes. The scheme and first performance results are presented.
