Low lying collective excitations (2+, 0+) are described in a microscopically supported collective model. Potentials and masses of a generalized Bohr-Hamiltonian are derived from axialy symmetric deformated Skyrme-Hartree-Fock calculations considering the dynamic response of the system. The model makes use of approximate projections (center of mass, angular momentum, particle number) and quantum corrections. Regarding the topology of the collective deformation space the properties of triaxial degrees of freedom are obtained by interpolation. These approximations are acceptable in the desired field of application - namely heavy nuclei and nuclei close to spherical symmetrie (typically semi-magic nuclei and their neighbourhood). As an application we discuss trends of collective excitations and the inherent groundstate correlations in Sn- and Pb-isotope chains as well as in α-chains of superheavy elements.
