For the year 2003 run half of the STAR electromagnetic calorimeter covering 0 < η < 1 and full azimuth was installed and operational. The layout and performance of this calorimeter will be described. The present analysis of the EMC data focuses on neutral meson production at large pT in d-Au collisions at √s = 200 GeV per nucleon. Such measurements will provide insight in the production mechanisms of high pT particles and help interpreting the suppression of these particles in Au-Au interactions.
