We present the first statistical analysis of
the fine structure of the electric pygmy dipole resonance. To this
extent we analyzed a data set composed of 184 E1 transitions
(levels and strengths) measured in the semimagic N = 82 isotones
138Ba, 140Ce, 142Nd, and 144Sm [1].
Microscopic calculations performed within the quasiparticle-phonon
model (QPM) serve to understand the experimental findings. By
taking the effects of the incompleteness of the experimental data
into account, qualitative agreement between experiment and QPM can
obtained for the level as well as the intensity statistics.
