Relativistic Coulomb excitation of nuclei near 100Sn: 108,112Sn — •Adriana Banu — GSI, Darmstadt, Germany — University of Mainz, Mainz, Germany

Nuclei in the vicinity of 100Sn can be investigated to gain insight into the structure of this, the heaviest N=Z doubly magic nucleus. The most sensitive test of E2 correlations related to core polarization [1] are the measurements of B(E2;2+→ 0+) values which have been investigated presently. The first Coulomb excitation experiments on 108,112Sn, performed with the recent RISING-FRS [2] set-up at GSI, are being reported. The radioactive projectile fragment 108Sn and the stable 112Sn at the relativistic energies of 142 and 147 MeV/u respectively were focused on to a gold target of 400 mg/cm2 thickness, after being selected and identified using the FRS fragment separator. The calorimeter telescope (CATE) was used behind the target for the channel selection as well as for measuring the scattering angle of the projectile fragments 108Sn and 112Sn. Gamma rays emitted from the excited fragments were detected by the RISING Ge cluster detectors. The Doppler corrected γ lines corresponding to the 2+→ 0+ transition have been identified in both 108,112Sn nuclei. The stable nucleus 112Sn, with a known B(E2;2+→ 0+), is being used to calibrate the measurement on 108Sn. The analysis is in progress and the results will be presented during the meeting.
