Investigation of the isospin related reactions pd→ (A=3)π — •Hartmut Machner — Inst. f. Kernphysik FZ Jülich
We have studied the cross sections for the isospin related reactions pd→ (A=3)π. Both reactions were measured simultaneously, thus reducing the systematical errors of the ratio of both reactions considerably. The data span an energy range covering the Δ resonance region up to the N*(1535) region. The experiments, performed at COSY Jülich, made use of the GEM detector system, i.e. the Germanium wall and the 3Q2D magnetic spectrograph. The recoiling 3He and 3H were identified and their four momentum vectors were measured. The data in the Δ region span the full angular range. Those in the threshold region of the N*(1535) are taken at the maximum momentum transfer from the incident proton to the nucleus. The data in the Δ resonance region consist of two components: a low momentum transfer part and a high momentum transfer part. The first shows isospin symmetry breaking in the differential quantities. The second one seems to obey isospin symmetry. The data in the threshold region of the N*(1535) show strong deviation from isospin symmetry. The reaction mechanism is studied by comparing the data to different models including one and two step processes. Also the question of the interaction of an intermediate η−3He final state interaction is addressed.
