Optimisation of momentum determination in the HADES experiment — •Anar Rustamov1, Hejdar Agakichiev1, Vladimir Pechinov1, Herbert Stroebele2, Joachim Stroth1,2, and Christian Sturm11Gesellschaft fuer Schwerionenforschung, Darmstadt — 2Universitaet Frankfurt

The aim of the HADES experiment is the measurement of e+-e pairs with an invariant mass resolution of 1 per cent. To achieve this goal precise momentum determination is essential. Our method to derive particle momenta from position and direction measurements before and behind a magnetic field is based on an iterative spline fitting procedure. First results from an incomplete analysis of elastic pp interactions yield a resolution in the total detected energy of 4 per cent. The momentum resolution for simulated electrons without multiple scattering ranges from 0.4% to 1% in the momentum region from 100 to 1000 MeV/c, if a position resolution of 100 microns in radial and 200 microns in tangential direction is assumed.
