Measurement of polarization-transfer coefficients of the fusion reaction D(d→,p→ )3H at low energies — •Astrid Imig, Carsten Düweke, Jürgen Ley, and Hans Paetz gen. Schieck — IKP, Universität zu Köln
Understanding the four-nucleon system is of fundamental
importance. The low-energy observables of the DD
reactions are especially interesting in the context of
fusion-energy and astrophysical considerations.
amplitudes
By factoring out the Coulomb penetrabilities one is able to determine
all transition amplitudes with a minimum of model-dependent assumptions.
Thus, it is possible to predict arbitrary observables [1].
However, in the data base observables such as polarization-transfer
coefficients PTC are missing. Therefore, in order to measure these, we
have installed a double-scattering experiment directly behind the
polarized ion
source. There are many experimental challenges in the determination of
PTC, i.e. due to double scattering and a strongly decreasing cross
section. Together with a new data acquisition system we are now able to
run
experiments in parallel to other measurements using the Cologne
FN tandem accelerator. Thus, we plan to run continously for long periods
and to
obtain sufficient statistics in reasonable time.
