Report on the A4 transmission Compton polarimeter — •Christoph Weinrich — Johannes-Gutenberg-Universität, Institut für Kernphysik, D-55099 Mainz

The A4 collaboration measures at MAMI (Mainz Microtron) the parity violating asymmetry in the scattering of longitudinally polarised electrons off unpolarised hydrogen. The size of this asymmetry is about 6 ppm. From this asymmetry the contributions of the strange quarks to the electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon may be determined. Good knowledge of the electron beam polarisation is important because the relative error in the polarisation measurement contributes with a factor of 1 to the relative error of the measured parity violating asymmetry.

The transmission Compton polarimeter which has to be calibrated with an absolutely measuring polarimeter was designed as a polarisation monitor between Møller polarimeter measurements and to adjust the spin direction for the experiment.

This talk will give an overview about setup, functionality, present results and remaining tasks of the polarimeter.
