On vortex induced confinement in SU(3) Yang-Mills theory — •Daniel-Jens Kusterer and Kurt Langfeld — Institut für Theroetische Physik, Universität Tübingen, D-72076 Tübingen
Quark confinement is studied by means of SU(3) lattice gauge theory employing Wilson action [1] and improved action, respectively. The center vortex structure of the vacuum is revealed and its relevance for confinement is studied. For this purpose, modified Yang-Mills ensembles are defined by removing the vortices from the lattice configurations. We show that the modified theory does not confine quarks. Finally, we confirm that the vortices properly extrapolate to the continuum limit emphasizing their relevance for continuum Yang-Mills theory.
