Inelastic neutrino-nucleus scattering can make significant contributions to supernova dynamics and nucleosynthesis. Although it is not yet considered in supernova simulations, a clear call has been made to determine the relevant neutrino-nucleus cross sections, in particular on nuclei in the iron mass range A ∼ 56. It is demonstrated here that precision M1 data, obtained from high-resolution electron scattering for the spherical nuclei 50Ti, 52Cr and 54Fe, can be translated into inelastic total and differential neutrino-nucleus cross sections at supernova neutrino energies. The results agree well with large-scale shell model calculations, validating this model. Some data for a deformed case, 56Fe [1], where the relation is more complex, are also discussed.
