In the framework of Spallation-Neutron Sources and accelerator driven systems in general the int. collaboration PISA (Proton Induced SpAllation) has initiated measurements of total and double differential cross-sections for products of spallation reactions on Ni and Au at the p-accelerator COSY in Jülich in order to study secondary particle production created in structural- window- and target-materials by proton beams up to 2.5 GeV incident kinetic energy. Residual nuclei—as H, He and IMF-production cross sections are of great importance for estimations of damages caused by irradiation. The demand for reliable theoretical predictions of production cross sections is by no means satisfied by the models and codes which are available today. In this context it is essential that reliable and comprehensive experimental data—especially for p-energies beyond 1 GeV exist which can serve as benchmarks for code development and validation. Reliable systematic data bases—especially for p-energies beyond 1 GeV are urgently needed in order to validate and improve the existing high energy transport codes. The task of the PISA project is to provide such data taken by Bragg curve spectroscopy and silicon detector telescopes for the reaction 1.9 and 2.5 GeV p+Ni(Au).
