Experimental evidence for pentaquarks — •Michael Ostrick — Physikalisches Institut Universitaet Bonn
Recently several experimental groups reported evidence
for the formation and the (photo)–production of a narrow
K+ n–resonance, the Θ+(1540). Such an object
does not fit into the ordinary quark picture of hadrons, where baryons are
understood in terms of three valence quarks
and a sea of gluons and quark–anti-quark excitations.
In order to account for its positive strangeness
the Θ+ must have at least one anti–strange quark together with 4
quarks and is therefore called pentaquark.
The current status of experimental evidences for pentaquark states will be
presented in the talk and open questions will be discussed.
