Jet Quenching at RHIC and LHC - Theory — •Urs Achim Wiedemann — CERN TH Division, CH-1211 Geneva 23

Three years after commissioning, experiments at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider RHIC provide a consistent picture of suppressed high-pt hadroproduction in 200 GeV/A Au+Au collisions. This phenomenon was predicted to occur as a consequence of medium-induced parton energy loss in dense QCD matter. Here, I discuss the theory of parton energy loss, the data supporting it, as well as alternative explanations put forward more recently. I review calculations which emphasize the rich phenomenology accessible at LHC and I discuss their relevance for the fundamental problem of understanding hadronization and equilibration in the theory of strong interactions.
