The ANTARES group is currently constructing an undersea neutrino telescope in 2400 m depth off the French Mediterranean coast. The main goal of the project is the detection of high energy neutrinos from cosmic sources.
Although the detector is designed to reconstruct muon tracks, they only make up a fraction of all neutrino events. It is therefore important to be able to distinguish muon events from electromagnetic and hadronic showers to allow a dedicated reconstruction of all event types in the presence of variable optical background.
A method for determining the event type and tagging individual signals is presented.
