Data Quality Check for the Muon Detector of the HERA-B 2002/2003 Run — •V. Sipica, M. Böcker, P. Buchholz, and U. Husemann — Fachbereich Physik, Universität Siegen, 57068 Siegen
HERA-B is a fixed target experiment designed to study the production of
heavy quarks. The HERA-B Muon Detector consists of 4 super-layers
composed of wire chambers with anode wire readout or with both wire and
cathode pad readout.
A data quality check of all runs containing muon data has been performed,
studying the amount of bad readout channels and their influence on the
data analysis.
The runs were selected from the run-list corresponding to the 2002/2003
data taking period, in total 294.
The muon hit distributions in all layers, as well as the pretrigger
coincidence rate distribution were studied, and the number of “hot”
channels was counted.
In order to obtain a measure for the influence of bad channels on the
analysis, a MC simulation was used and artificial “hot” channels were
added.
Then the data was passed through the track reconstruction chain, and the
variation of the number of reconstructed muon tracks was studied,
resulting in minor effects.
Regarding the pretrigger efficiency, there are other effects to be
considered, which will be studied in an independent pretrigger
efficiency analysis.
