A Large Telescope for H.E.S.S. Phase II — •Michael Panter — Max-Planck-Institut f"u"r Kernphysik, Saupfercheckweg 1, 69117 Heidelberg
The H.E.S.S.-experiment was originally planned in two phases. The first phase consists of the construction of a stereoscopic system of four Cherenkov telescopes with about 100 squaremeters mirror surface each and the necessary infrastructure. This work was completed in December 2003 and the full system is in operation since.
Now the collaboration discusses about a second phase which aims at substantially enlarging the sensitivity of the system and lowering the energy threshold by nearly an order of magnitude. The status of the ongoing work will be presented.
