Measurement of Lambda Polarisation in the COMPASS Experiment — •J. Friedrich, M. Wiesmann, M. Becker, R. de Masi, A.-M. Fuchs, S. Gerassimov, B. Grube, B. Ketzer, I. Konorov, R. Kuhn, S. Paul, L. Schmitt, and Q. Weitzel — TU München, Physik Department E18
We present first results on transverse Lambda polarization from the 2002 COMPASS run at the CERN SPS. With the 160 GeV polarized muon beam on a polarized LiD target, Lambda and Antilambda production with quasi-real photons (Q2<0.5 GeV2) was observed.
A measurement of transverse Lambda and Antilambda polarization was performed using the bias-cancelling method in order to minimize systematic effects. The polarization is studied in dependence on the kinematic variables xF and pt.
