Chaotic Scattering of Cold Atoms in Optical Lattices — •S. Mossmann, C. Schumann, and H. J. Korsch — Fachbereich Physik, TU Kaiserslautern
Cold Atoms in a standing laserfield provide an opportunity for an experimental realisation of Quantum Chaos. Under the influence of a constant and time-periodic force, the system becomes classically chaotic. Signatures of this behavior will be analysed by comparing the survival probabilities with the results of Random Matrix Theory. The survival probability depends extremely sensitively on the symmetries of the system and exhibit a fractal structure with respect to the ratio of driving frequency and intrinsic Bloch frequency.
