Rydberg series of doubly excited states near the Kr 4s ionization threshold were examined using photon-induced fluorescence spectroscopy (PIFS). Synchrotron radiation of very narrow bandwidth (Δ E = 1.7 eV) from the electron storage ring BESSY II, Berlin,at the undulator source U125/1 and monochromatized by a PGM monochromator was used as source of the exciting photons. With the achieved narrow bandwidth it was possible to assign quantum numbers to the Rydberg electrons of the examined doubly excited states for the first time.
