We calculate the rate of energy conversion from the collective coherent oscillations of the electronic subsystem of a heated ionized nanobody such as a thin film or a spherical cluster into stochastic electron motion by the mechanism of collisionless Landau damping. For the two limiting cases of specular reflection and diffusive reflection of the electrons off the boundary of the system, the damping constant is evaluated as a function of the size of the system and the electron temperature. The rate of heating of the electron subsystem as well as the cross sections for light scattering and absorption by a large heated ionized cluster are calculated and analyzed in view of recent experimental findings.
