ISOLTRAP is a Penning trap mass spectrometer dedicated to the high-precision measurement of the masses of exotic nuclides [1]. It is supplied with radioactive ions at 60 keV energy from the ISOLDE facility. The beam conditioning stage of ISOLTRAP is situated on a high-voltage platform. To adapt the ion cloud’s potential energy for transport to the Penning trap setup a drifttube is switched rapidly from about 60 keV to ground potential while the ion cloud resides in it [2]. To reduce a fluctuation in secondary-beam energy brought about by a leakage current in the present switch setup we designed and built a new fast high-voltage switch to replace the used asymmetric switch. The setup as well as first results will be presented.
