We propose spatial analogues of the stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP), coherent population trapping (CPT), and electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) techniques as tools to coherently and robustly manipulate external degrees of freedom of trapped neutral atoms. These techniques are realized using the tunneling interaction between three trapped states. We analyze the implementation in arrays of optical microtraps and discuss possible applications.
